On the occasion of the celebration of Teller Ede’s 100th birthday’s anniversary, Paks Nuclear Power Plant Ltd together with the authority of Lipótváros Downtown, the Hungarian Academy of Sciences, and the second-hand bookshop of the Parliament have installed a memorial plaque in the 5th District of Budapest, on the building situated at the corner of Szalay Street 3 and Honvéd Street 18. The world famous scientist had lived in this building from the age of five until he passed his General Certificate of Education in 1926.
Teller Ede is a big figure of universal science. He was an exceptional authority in nuclear physics, in various branches in relation to quantum mechanics, and was engaged in a lot of questions, relating to the safety of nuclear reactors.
The atomic physicist who had a very rich and exceptional biography lived for decades abroad.
He had completed his studies in Germany then he resided in the USA. He started to visit Hungary only following the change of regime, and from that time onward, he kept a close interest in the activity of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant. The first time he visited Paks was on 3th December 1990 then followed a second visit on 23th. January 1991, when he was satisfied and happy to share his experience. During the next visit he made on 21st October 1996, he ascertained like every time he was in Paks that, as far as the safety of the Paks Nuclear Power Plant and the qualification of its experts are concerned, it belongs to the forefront of the world.
