Damaged Paks fuel assemblies were legally shipped and disposed
Shipment and disposal of fuel assemblies damaged during Paks malfunction were performed in accordance with the international guidelines, based on a contract in force, in an entirely legal manner.
The contract that was made between MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant and the Russian FCJaRB company for the shipment and disposal of nuclear fuel, was signed by EURATOM Supply Agency (ESA) in April 2010 as third party.
The contract that was concluded between MVM Paks Nuclear Power Plant with the Russian partner in 2009 had to be supplemented in order to clarify some technical and procedural questions (e.g. company data), by which the substantive conditions of the contract were not modified and no further commitments were defined.
In accordance with the practice jointly developed with ESA, Paks Nuclear Power Plant subsequently sent these documents to the Agency.
Paks NPP pays special attention to act at all times on the basis of applicable laws and treaties, to maximally adhere to international guidelines in force and to comply with the requirements of the Hungarian nuclear authorities in all respects.
