Due to the recent low water levels of the Danube river, the filters of the condenser cooling pumps have been receiving higher loads of debris. Therefore on 24.10.2018, at 15:30, power reduction is scheduled on the turbines for units 3 and 4. Each turbine (two per unit) is depowered by 62.5 MWs, thus the total power reduction accounts for 250 MWs. Following the power decrease, the filters will be cleaned, the cleaning process is estimated to be completed within the day. Consequently, the units will be returned to nominal power operation. The activities have no effect on nuclear safety, the cleaning process is performed in cooperation with the electric network operator (MAVIR), and all regulations will be adhered to.
As the water level of the Danube river has started increasing, from October 21, 2018 Paks NPP has returned from grade 3 to grade 2 according to the Low Water Response Plan.
